Welcome!! Bienvenidos!!

Welcome to the Vencedoras de Batallas blog!!  This blog is meant to share with the Mango Tree Foundation, the Centro de Educación para el Desarrollo (CED) at UNIMINUTO University, and the women of Vencedoras de Batallas, as well as all others interested in the project.

The project began in December of 2010 and has been growing stronger ever since.  Together we are carrying out a process in women's empowerment and organizational strengthening via a series of workshops at the CED.  There are currently nine women leaders of this group of sex workers and former sex workers who are collaborating in the process: Alcira, Bertilda, Elena, Esperanza, Estella, Jackelinne, Luz Marina, Paty, and Stella.

These nine women have made a commitment to develop ways for them and all the members of Vencedoras de Batallas to find economic alternatives to prostitution, which they have pursued out of necessity.  The group is also a place where the members can share their experiences, learn about their rights, and collectively fight to win their battles.  This is why they call themselves "Vencedoras de Batallas."

Soon we will be posting pictures of our recent trip to Silvania and the Villa Eudes in Cundinamarca, just outside of Bogotá, where we had a day to strengthen our commitment to the group, demonstrate the skills we have learned over the past few months, and simply be together.  Stay tuned!
